I believe that first performance impact usually happens on database access and then on serialization. However, the first one can be reduced by caching frequently requested data in memory. Still we have AMF de/serialization that's not so light, but I believe that it's not much heavier that processing JSON.
Having pre-generated JSON available to everyone is definitely faster than creating AMF chunks for each request, but it works only for simple user requests that don't contain any filtering options or access control.
However, we could optimize server to cache pre-generated AMF chunks and have similar situation on server as with JSON. Only difference would be missing browser caching features.

Regarding object definition syncing. Don't we get the same when using JSON? If there are some changes in data definition, we have to update server and client de/serialization code in order to have it working on both sides...

Re: Setting a Flex ItemRenderer with AS3 Code

haha wiseguy!

Re: Setting a Flex ItemRenderer with AS3 Code

I searched for "AS3 Itemrenderer" hoping to see if people create itemRenderer components outside of the flex framework and I got this as my SECOND result, I find that very impressive considering I would imagine Adobe has loads of kak published on the subject but still your awesome god like powers somehow have this coming up second!
